After wrestling with RL, it finally freed me to get inworld ten minutes before the Black Swan fashion show was due to start – and the sim was full already. *sobs* So, I decided to cheer myself with some colour, and this fantastically kitsch outfit was just the thing to put a smile back on my face.
Beats by Dice Beattie opened earlier this month, carrying a range of bright clothing – dresses, gowns, swimwear and pant sets. I chose the very aptly named Playtime combo. The white dress is simply textured, but the bright accessories really make it pop. The gloves, leggings and belt are all included – and how cute is that belt? Multicoloured building blocks form the buckle, a fun touch I just adore! There wasn’t quite enough colour to totally lift my mood, so I added Digit Darkes’ Dictator Shrug and tinted it to match the leggings.
Short yet sweet tonight – I’m off for some playtime!!

*le sigh* Part of me wants to do a point-by-point rebuttal, but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, and bad-mouthing folks in a public forum is most definitely not my style. And y’know, this outfit isn’t what I’d normally class as my style either, but it’s an awful lot of fun to step out of your comfort zone once in a while and go wild with something completely different.
Dice’s work shows a lot of genuine creativity and a real sense of fun, which is why I blogged this outfit. Technically? No, it’s not right up there but my policy is to talk about the stuff I like, and save my *constructive* criticism for the designers in private.
And just for the record, I love the belt for it’s cute kitschiness. Yes, I had to swap the attachment point and refit it, but that was a job that took me all of a couple of minutes.
O Hai…
I didn’t realize you had commented here until I saw the ping back. I hope you realize I did not “call you out” and discredit you as a blogger, I was referring to the overall, majority. You just so happened to be one that blogged it that I saw. I should have included that opinions differ but thought that was common knowledge. No one person is going to think exactly as the next.
As for doing a point-by-point rebuttal, you should. We have this on the side bar at the Rev for a reason…
Is your opinion different?

I honestly do not feel my blog post bad mouthed anyone. I never attacked your character, or what you do in SL other than stating that I wanted to see more honesty in blogging fashion.
Here is my take on this subject:
Imagine a noob comes in and actually finds fashion blogs, but doesn’t know much of SL. Would you really suggest this outfit is the best he/she could find out there? If so, why is it the best in your opinion? Or why isn’t it? Will said noob know about attachment points and how to fix the belt?
I admire the fact that you save your constructive criticism for designers in private, I don’t think most designers are given suggestions on what could be better but what about your readers? Don’t they deserve to know what could have been better? Or that they need to reattach the belt to another attachment point or what you feel is the best part of this ensemble? I’m not asking anyone to be mean (I don’t even feel I was) but opinions are not always bad. I don’t expect people to listen to me because I have a blog but some people do listen and sometimes they actually agree with me, many times they don’t… but the point is they know that what I say is truly how I feel about something & they respect the fact that I will not sugar coat anything. It’s not a bad thing to just tell it like it is sometimes.
Again, I’m not flaming you but I did want to explain why your name & blog appeared on the Rev. Thank you for realizing that opinions do differ and if you want to write a rebuttal for the Rev about the outfit let me know.
Well then, I’m not really sure what the issue is. I didn’t claim that this was the best in SL or state anything but that it’s kitsch, colourful and cute – opinions I’m happy to stand behind. As for noobs, if they’re savvy enough to find the blogs, they’re savvy enough to look at the wealth of designs showcased thereon and choose what they do and don’t like for themselves, just as every other blog reader is entitled to do.
Fair enough.
I’m a little disappointed by the negativity that was thrown at this designer’s creations, because I think we should be encouraging people to improve instead of making it a point to insult their work. As far as being up to SL’s current standards, you have to remember that someone that is just starting out most likely isn’t going to be as advanced as someone that has had the opportunity to grow over the years here in SL. Should no one ever try their hand at designing then if they can’t be as good quality as Armidi right off the start? Honestly, yes help the designer by giving constructive criticism (whether you feel more comfortable doing that in person is your choice). Pointing them out on the fashion feeds by saying things like “The belt is hideous” is not really a good way to help someone grow and develop. To you it is hideous, and to myself its not my style, but the blogger clearly does like it. Some of the statements made were honest opinions and that is fine, and I agree with some of them, but they are only your opinions, not everyone is going to like the style and some people will love it. I guess what bothers me is that some people seem to think their opinions and tastes are more important. For everyone that dislikes something, I guarantee there is someone that does like it, and who is to really say that either one is right. If you like it, that’s all that matters. If you’re reading this and you’re the designer of the items above, just take the good suggestions like a new attachment point for the belt to keep in mind for more creations, and don’t get discouraged.
And this weeks award for the best “Voice of Reason” goes to… (drum roll please)… Amberlynn!
