I’m loving all the waistcoats that are popping up over the grid at the moment. I was big into waistcoats, or vests to those of you the other side of the pond, in my younger days, and it started me off thinking about my style (or lack thereof as my mother would argue) when I was younger. I was very much one of the outsiders, but my style was as eclectic then as it is now, albeit rather different! For a start, if it wasn’t black, I didn’t wear it. Oh, apart from that pink fake fur jacket… but we won’t go into my Transvision Vamp obsession. So, when I got the notice about the new waistcoats at PixelDolls, I hopped right over. With twelve different colours to choose from, I took the easy option and went for the black, and got to playing around with an outfit that turned out a cross between how I was back in the day, and how I wish I’d been!!
I headed over to Riddle to grab the fab tintable cable knit hosiery set, which has been thoughtfully textured to minimise the less than aesthetic impact of the unavoidable seams. I spotted this tiny denim skirt whilst I was there and just couldn’t resist. The t-shirt is a great basic from Nyte’n'Day, the fabric from the open top buttons hanging loose. You can’t really see it in the pic, but take my word for it, or even better, pop over to the store to look for yourself!
Some Mary Janes, a wrapped scarf and the cute messy bun hair were easy. But then I started looking for earrings. Unable to find just the right thing in inventory, I recalled the Dreamers set from Trixie’s Treasures, reminiscent of the silver filigree Indian jewelry I used to wear. I IM’d Trixie to ask if one of the many colour combinations was black and silver, but unfortunately it wasn’t. Superstar that she is though, she made a set up for me, and incredibly generously, she’s going to give them out to her group as a gift! There was still something missing though, until I stumbled across Rave Nation. To the best of my recollection, I’d not visited before, but they have a great selection of piercings. This particular set has the lip piercings and a brow piercing (hidden by my fringe) all on the mouth attachment point so it didn’t mess with my prim lashes. A slight amount of repositioning was required, but thats only to be expected, and it only took me a minute or two to fit.
UPDATE: Trixie has released a full set of the Dreamers in Black for general sale!

Nice look. I remember waist coats in college too, though my big college look was vintage. I haunted the vintage stores and the amazing Ragstock in Minneapolis. I am sure 80% of my wardrobe was from Ragstock.
Ragstock – great name for a store! I never really did the vintage thing myself – living in the middle of nowhere, when I got chance to get into a city, I hit all the alt shops instead. The pink fake fur coat mentioned above was a fave charity shop find tho.
