Slinky little somethings

Siddean Munro of SLink recently ran a photo contest (the name of which I have shamelessly stolen as the title for this post) to celebrate the launch of the stores new island. I had such fun doing the pics for the Digital Dragon comp, I figured I might as well have a go at this one too and spent an evening preparing – rummaging through inventory, checking out locations, experimenting with poses etc. When it came to it though, things didn’t quite go according to plan.

I was intending to use the black leather coat I bought from SLink an age ago for a Matrix outfit, and which has had a lot of wear at rock events also. I stopped by the store to see if I couldn’t pick up something to add a splash of colour and spotted this Diamond bikini in a great red tone – bright, but not brassy. The shading on this is lovely, and it comes packaged along with a matching sheer sarong and cute beach sandals. Fun though they are, the sandals just weren’t right for the pics, but the Paige t-straps were ideal – a gorgeous shape to the base, elegant strapwork, plus the sweetest little accent of diamond studs to the central strap.

Whilst I was instore, I had a good browse round. Siddean has a great range – clothes, shoes, skins, hair and accessories – and I was checking quite a few items out. As I was browsing, I did a double take when I spotted the hovertip on the coats fatpack. It was marked up at L$300. “What a bargain,” I thought, and checked the price of the single coats – L$300. I was sorely tempted to go ahead and hit buy, but there’s that little issue of ethics. SL’s content creators work so hard to make us such wonderful things, and have quite enough to contend with from the content thieves without folks taking advantage of obvious pricing errors. I messaged Siddean, and left her an offline. She got back to me a short time later, and I was astounded when she dropped the fatpack on me as a thank you for letting her know.

This is a great collection of coats – a wide selection of colours unusually including pastel options and no less than three different reds, and both long and short prim skirts are in the box. The jacket is handpainted lushness, with exquisite highlighting, giving the feel of a well-worn but much-loved oh so soft leather. I did have to make some minor tint adjustments on two or three of the skirts, but that’s not at all uncommon given the infinite variety of windlight settings out there. Siddean told me she’s planning an update to the coats, and doubtless windlight optimisation will be part of that process.

So, the moral of the tale is do the right thing, you might just get your reward before you get to heaven, and if not, at least your conscience will be clear! Anyways, I now had a whole bunch of other coats to choose from for my pic, and it was getting late, so I decided to wait until the following day.

My first port of call every day when I sit down at my PC is my feedreader, catching up with the blogs over morning coffee. I spotted a post regarding Eshi Otawara’s one hour sim build project. She’s totally re-inventing the Desperado sim daily, in (you guessed it) just one hour. I ported over to take a look, and was just astounded by the incredible effect of what seemed like hundreds of red laser beams in constant motion across the whole sim. All of my plans went out the window, I changed on the spot, and shot a single pose with that incredible backdrop. My pic didn’t rank in the contest, but personally, I couldn’t have been happier with it. Congrats to the winners!
